John's "Piper Cub" flies approximately 30 inches above the roof line to the top of the tail. It measures 22 inches in length with a wing span of 31 inches. The propeller is solid brass and when a decent breeze catches it, the propeller spins. If you look closely, you'll see a brass "guard dog" attached to the mounting post right near the wheels. The incredible balance that John engineers into his weathervanes is so good that the plane will literally fly off the post in a stiff breeze. The "guard dog" keeps the plane on the post where it belongs and is John's trademark. It also helps keep the weathervane from being easily stolen by college pranksters. The copper has not been treated and will age into a rich patina over time.
